So, the Gods of the Old Religion become the Devils of the New Religion. Satan, an invention, represents the second split in the Christian theology. The first was the shift from group conciousness (Judiaism) to the individual conciousness (Christianity). That is, salvation became personal.
The second split was to separate good from evil, creating an all good force and an all bad force.
